In order to share a little more about the product and its design process, we interviewed Scott Cole, our Director of Product!
What inspired the creation of the Lume Cube XL?
We’d love to hear what motivated the team to go bigger and better with this launch!
The inspiration / motivation came from a few places. We have always loved the original Lume Cube for its small form factor, durable build, and surprisingly powerful output. However in recent years, the Panel Pro 2.0 and Tube Lights have become new favorites because of the added benefit of their RGB LEDs, as well as the intuitive nature of the Lume Control App and the extra features it delivers. We wanted to combine our favorite features of all of these products. The Lume Cube XL is really the best of both worlds - powerful, portable, durable, and easy to use. What more could you ask for?
Can you walk us through the key features of the Lume Cube XL that make it a must-have for creators?
What are some of the standout specs that make it a game-changer in lighting?
The powerful light output to size ratio is incredible. For such a compact product, it can light up any environment really well, whether you’re shooting in the studio or mounting it for streaming or podcasting. Also, we really focused on making the Lume Cube XL as intuitive as possible, all the way around; the Lume Control app is so simple to pair and use, as well as all the accessories we developed to marry with this mini COB
The Lume Cube XL promises to bring more power and versatility. How did your team approach designing a product that balances portability with high performance?
For photographers and videographers on the go, what should they be excited about?
Our focus for all products we design and build is to make tools that are powerful, portable, and intuitive. Too many products these days are over-featured and overwhelming, or big and bulky. We like making products that help get the job done, not products that get in the way or bog you down. Pair that approach with the highly accurate, premium quality LEDs and it’s a recipe for success.
Can you share a bit about the process of developing the Lume Cube XL? Were there any unexpected challenges or breakthroughs along the way?
Of course, every new project of this nature has its share of challenges along the way, but fortunately we didn’t encounter any major issues during the development process. We really wanted to maintain the cube form factor, as a nod to it’s predecessor and because of the structural strength of the shape. We had to get a little creative with the placement of some of the internal components, but in the end it actually proved to be more efficient, so it was a win.
Who do you see benefiting the most from the Lume Cube XL—creators, outdoor adventurers, or maybe both?
It seems like such a versatile tool, we’d love to hear how different communities are using it!
Both - the versatility of the Lume Cube XL is the best part! It’s a valuable tool for anyone and everyone. It can be mounted on an Edge Mounted Light Stand behind a monitor and used for live streaming and video. Put it on a 70” light stand with a Bowens Mount Adapter and Large Soft Box for podcasting or interviews. Toss it in a bag and take it on an adventure with the Power Grip XL for high quality lighting for any shot on the go. This is one light to rule them all!
What feedback from the Lume Cube community influenced the design and features of the XL model?
It’s clear you listen closely to users—what requests or insights shaped this product?
We love hearing from our users - the high-fives and constructive criticism are equally appreciated and always taken to heart! The overwhelming feedback from the community was that there was a gap between the Lume Cube 2.0 and the Tube Lights. The Lume Cube XL is somewhat of a blend of these two products, with some additional magic baked in.

What would you say sets this model apart for new customers looking to elevate their lighting game?
